New Gun For Christmas?

Did you get a new and unfamiliar firearm for Christmas? Or did the wife get you your first firearm?

Here are three thing you need to do with a new or unfamiliar firearm…

  • Learn the trigger.

If you have taken our pistol course you have heard us talk about the different walls of the trigger. Glock has three walls, Sig has 2 walls, etc. It is your job as soon as you get a new firearm to learn your trigger. Learn and feel each wall, deliberate and non deliberate. Dry fire and feel what each wall feels like. If you have been to our pistol course, you understand how crucial this is.

  • Disassemble and reassemble.

My Glock is taken apart differently than a Sig or 1911. It is important to know how your pistol can be manipulated. One way you do this is by taking the gun apart and putting it back together. Another way you can do this is with repetitive dry firing with speed reload drills.

  • Know it’s purpose.

When you get a new firearm, one of the first questions you need to figure out is what you intend to use it for. Is this a fun gun you’ll use for target practice? Or is this something you will carry on you everyday and leave next to your bed at night? This is important information. If this is your EDC, you need to be intentional with how you train with it. If this is a “Gucci” gun, maybe not so much. Know the purpose of each firearm, so you know how to train with them.
